Disease has profound effects on sexuality. Fatigue reduces the enthusiasm for sex. Pain and deformity can interfere with the ability to have sexual intercourse. Surgeries and skin diseases can alter perceived attractiveness. Disease can result in dysphoria or depression resulting in a decrease in libido in men and women and erectile capacity in men. Some diseases can result in vaginal dryness or infection leading to dyspareunia. Numerous central nervous system disorders result in a decline in libido in both sexes and erectile dysfunction. Numerous diseases result in a decline in testosterone levels leading to a decreased libido. Finally, medications used to treat disease can alter sexual enthusiasm or performance.
